DAXXIFY vs Botox, Dysport & Xeomin | AdoreU
DAXXIFY vs. Botox, Dysport & Xeomin: What’s the Difference?

If you have looked into wrinkle-relaxing injections, you have probably heard several different names: DAXXIFY, Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, and Xeomin.
All four are botulinum toxin type A neuromodulators, commonly called wrinkle relaxers. They temporarily reduce the muscle activity that contributes to expression lines—but they are not identical products.
I have treated clients with all four. Today, DAXXIFY is the neuromodulator I use at AdoreU because I like its fast onset, its gradual wear-off, and the results I have seen in some clients who experienced limited, inconsistent, or shorter-than-expected results with other neuromodulators.
That does not mean one brand is automatically best for everyone. Your anatomy, muscle strength, previous response, treatment goals, dose, placement, and the amount of movement you want to maintain can all affect your experience.
What Are Wrinkle Relaxers?
Every time you frown, squint, smile, or raise your eyebrows, facial muscles contract and fold the skin above them.
When we are younger, the skin usually smooths back out when the expression stops. Over time, repeated movement—combined with changes in collagen, elastin, skin thickness, and sun exposure—can cause those temporary folds to become more noticeable or remain visible at rest.
Wrinkle relaxers temporarily reduce the release of acetylcholine, the chemical signal that tells a muscle to contract.
When the targeted muscle cannot contract as strongly, it does not repeatedly fold the skin as aggressively. This can soften existing expression lines and help prevent them from becoming more deeply etched into the skin.
Wrinkle relaxers do not fill a wrinkle. They address the muscle movement contributing to it.
DAXXIFY, Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin Are Different Medications
Although these products belong to the same general category, each is a separate prescription medication:
DAXXIFY: daxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm
Botox Cosmetic: onabotulinumtoxinA
Dysport: abobotulinumtoxinA
Xeomin: incobotulinumtoxinA
Each product has its own formulation and biological potency measurement.
This is why the number of units cannot be compared directly from one brand to another.
For the FDA-approved treatment of moderate to severe glabellar—or frown—lines, the labeled doses are:
DAXXIFY: 40 units
Botox Cosmetic: 20 units
Dysport: 50 units
Xeomin: 20 units
This does not mean 40 units of DAXXIFY is twice as strong as 20 units of Botox. It also does not mean someone who received 50 units of Dysport received “more” medication than someone treated with 20 units of Xeomin.
The units are product-specific and are not interchangeable.
What Makes DAXXIFY Different?
DAXXIFY is formulated with a proprietary peptide called RTP004, which helps stabilize the active ingredient.
It is also known for its potentially fast onset and longer-duration clinical profile.
One of the things I personally like most about DAXXIFY is how quickly many of my clients begin seeing a change. Some notice the treatment beginning to work within the first 24 to 48 hours.
That does not mean the final result is visible immediately. Neuromodulator effects continue developing over the following days, which is why I wait approximately 14 days before deciding whether a treatment needs to be adjusted.
I also like the way DAXXIFY tends to wear off. Many clients notice a gradual return of movement instead of feeling as though their result suddenly disappeared.
Why I Currently Use DAXXIFY at AdoreU
My preference for DAXXIFY comes from experience using DAXXIFY, Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin—not simply from comparing marketing materials.
I have seen DAXXIFY work well for clients who previously had:
Limited improvement from another neuromodulator
An inconsistent response
A shorter-than-expected result
Frustration with how abruptly another treatment seemed to wear off
A desire for a faster onset
This does not necessarily mean those clients had true botulinum toxin resistance.
True resistance may involve the development of neutralizing antibodies, but it is considered uncommon in aesthetic treatment. Dose, placement, anatomy, muscle strength, treatment area, and individual metabolism can also affect the result.
I cannot promise that someone who did not respond well to another product will automatically have a better result with DAXXIFY. I can say that I have seen a meaningful difference in some of my own clients.
Does DAXXIFY Really Last 5½ to 6 Months?
This is where realistic expectations matter.
In the pivotal DAXXIFY studies, participants received 40 units in the glabellar area. The studies demonstrated a median duration of approximately 24 weeks for maintaining none-or-mild frown lines, with more than half of participants meeting that measure around six months.
That is valid clinical-trial data—but it does not mean every client should expect 5½ to 6 months of complete wrinkle relaxation.
Most of my clients do not experience a full 5½ to 6 months of effect. In my practice, a result closer to approximately 13 to 14 weeks is more typical, although some clients experience longer results.
There are several reasons real-world results may differ from a clinical trial:
The clinical trials used the studied 40-unit glabellar dose.
Not every client needs or wants that amount of product.
A higher dose also increases treatment cost.
Some clients prefer to maintain more natural movement.
Different muscles and treatment areas respond differently.
Muscle strength and individual metabolism vary.
The meaning of “still working” may differ from one client to another.
Someone may have movement beginning to return while still seeing meaningful improvement compared with their starting point. That is different from being completely back to baseline.
Why Dose Matters
Neuromodulator longevity is dose-dependent.
If someone chooses a very light treatment because they want to preserve significant movement, it would not be realistic to expect the same strength or duration that may occur with a fuller dose.
At AdoreU, I do not chase a predetermined number of units. I evaluate:
Facial anatomy
Muscle size and strength
How the face moves
Which muscles are creating the wrinkles
Previous neuromodulator response
How much movement the client wants to maintain
The areas being treated
Treatment goals
Cost and treatment preferences
My goal is to use the appropriate dose in the appropriate muscles for that individual face.
What Makes Botox Cosmetic Different?
Botox Cosmetic is the most recognizable name in the category because it has been used in aesthetics for decades.
The word “Botox” is now frequently used to describe any wrinkle-relaxing treatment, even when the product being administered is not actually Botox.
Botox remains a widely used and well-studied neuromodulator. Its familiarity and long history are meaningful, but brand recognition alone does not make it the best choice for every person.
What Makes Dysport Different?
Dysport has its own potency measurement system, which is why Dysport treatments typically involve a larger number of units.
Dysport can have a relatively quick onset. It is also sometimes described as having a broader field of effect—but saying that it simply “spreads more” is an oversimplification.
The area affected around an injection can be influenced by:
Product
Dose
Concentration
Injection volume
Injection depth
Placement
Individual anatomy
A slightly broader treatment field can be helpful in some areas. In other areas, I want tighter control because nearby muscles perform functions I do not want to weaken.
The product matters, but the person holding the syringe matters enormously too.
What Makes Xeomin Different?
Xeomin is manufactured without the accessory or complexing proteins found in some botulinum toxin formulations. This is why it is sometimes described as a “naked” neuromodulator.
That nickname does not mean the vial contains nothing except botulinum toxin. It refers specifically to the absence of those accessory proteins.
Some clients respond very well to Xeomin. Others may prefer the onset, duration, wear-off, or overall response they experience with another product.
Why One Neuromodulator May Work Better for You
Two people can receive the same medication and have completely different experiences.
One person may feel that a treatment lasted beautifully. Another may begin noticing movement much sooner.
Differences can be influenced by:
Muscle strength
Facial anatomy
Individual metabolism
Dose
Placement
Treatment area
Activity level
Previous treatment history
The desired balance between relaxation and movement
Your previous experience is useful information. If a treatment worked well, wore off abruptly, never fully developed, or did not last as expected, that should be part of your next treatment plan.
Which Wrinkle Relaxer Is Best?
I do not think the most helpful question is simply:
“Which neuromodulator is best?”
A better question is:
Which product, dose, concentration, and injection pattern make the most sense for your anatomy, previous response, and goals?
DAXXIFY has become my preferred neuromodulator because of its fast onset, gradual wear-off, and the clinical results I have seen in my clients.
However, the medication is only one part of the result. Accurate assessment, appropriate dosing, precise placement, and realistic expectations are equally important.
What If I Already Have Wrinkles When My Face Is Relaxed?
Wrinkle relaxers work most directly on dynamic wrinkles—the lines caused by repeated facial movement.
When a wrinkle remains visible while the face is relaxed, it has become a static wrinkle.
Reducing muscle movement can still help because the skin is no longer being folded as aggressively in the same place. An established line may gradually soften over time, especially with consistent treatment.
However, relaxing the muscle does not instantly repair the skin.
Daily sunscreen, effective skincare, collagen-supporting treatments, and time may all be needed to improve an established wrinkle. Deeper lines or significant changes in skin quality may require a combination treatment plan.

DAXXIFY Treatment in O’Fallon, Missouri
At AdoreU, wrinkle-relaxer treatment begins with Treatment Planning, not with selecting a dose from a menu.
I evaluate your facial movement, anatomy, muscle strength, previous treatment experience, and what you want your result to look like.
The goal is not to make every face completely expressionless. It is to target the muscles creating the unwanted movement while maintaining facial balance and the expressions you want to keep.
If you have been frustrated by limited or inconsistent results from another neuromodulator—or you are curious about whether DAXXIFY may be appropriate for you—we can talk through your experience and create an individualized treatment plan.

Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly does DAXXIFY begin working?
Some clients notice changes within the first 24 to 48 hours. The effect continues developing over the following days, and the full result should be evaluated at approximately two weeks.
Does DAXXIFY last six months for everyone?
No. Clinical studies demonstrated longer-duration results in many participants treated with the studied 40-unit glabellar dose, but not every client experiences 5½ to 6 months of effect. Dose, anatomy, muscle strength, treatment area, metabolism, and desired movement all affect duration.
Why does DAXXIFY use more units than Botox?
The units used for different botulinum toxin products are not interchangeable. Forty units of DAXXIFY cannot be directly compared with 20 units of Botox.
Can I try DAXXIFY if Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin did not work well for me?
Possibly. I have seen good results in some clients who had limited or inconsistent results with other products, but a better response cannot be guaranteed. Your previous dose, placement, treatment pattern, and response should be reviewed during Treatment Planning.
Will DAXXIFY erase a deep wrinkle?
It may soften a wrinkle by reducing the movement that continues folding the skin, but it does not fill or instantly erase an established crease. Skincare, sun protection, time, and additional skin treatments may be needed.
